The Tech Valley Region of New York Welcomes You

Tech Valley is a 19-county region of eastern New York state that spans from just south of Montreal to just north of New York City. Tech Valley’s vitality can be measured by the inflow of jobs investment, breakthrough research, cutting-edge innovation and commitment to education and knowledge-based resources.
A major milestone will take place in 2009 - the 400th anniversary of the voyages of explorers Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain along the river and lake that bear their names and that played a key role in shaping Tech Valley. It is also the 200th anniversary of Robert Fulton’s successful steamboat voyage on the Hudson River.
While we reflect on these important anniversaries, we also look to the future and the excellent career and educational opportunities in Tech Valley.
In fall 2008, Advanced Micro Devices confirmed it will build a $4.5 billion leading-edge chip facility at the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Saratoga County. The plant is expected to create 1,465 jobs with a payroll of $88 million and generate an additional 5,000 jobs in the region.
Forbes ranks Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 14th in the nation among private schools based on the earning power of its alumni. The University at Albany placed 19th among public universities. Newsweek has named 14 Tech Valley public high schools among the top 5 percent in the country. Forbes placed Tech Valley among its “Top 20 Places to Educate Your Child.”
The region received high grades for its colleges, public school support, private-school options and library popularity.
The Tech Valley chamber coalition has been a driving force in promoting economic development in the region. “We recognize that creating a sustainable economy requires us to work regionally and cooperate with organizations that share our interest in expanding economic opportunity,” says Todd Shimkus, president and CEO of the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce.
