Web Exclusive Content Schenectady Arts District Plugs in New Name
Published Jun 20, 2008

Schenectady is tapping into roots to bring some new current to its arts and entertainment district.
440 State Street Inc., a nonprofit that promotes arts and culture in the city, has rechristened it as the ElectriCity Arts District, a nod to Schenectady’s General Electric and other electricity-related heritage.
The district includes the historic and magnificently restored Proctors theater as well as the visual arts oriented Myers Studio, Northeast Ballet, the 100-seat theater Upstairs @ 440, a gallery and arts classes for Schenectady County Community College, and visual arts and rehearsal theater Jay Street Studios.
