Fueling A New Energy Product
Published Jul 02, 2008
A Tech Valley hydrogen cell manufacturer has picked up a $500,000 state contract that will help bring to market a residential power and heating product. Latham-based Plug Power received the funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for its GenSys system, which the company says could provide power, heat and hot water for residential homes and small commercial operations.
Plug Power’s hydrogen fuel cell systems generate electricity with only water vapor as the by-product. Plug Power develops and deploys clean, reliable energy solutions, and integrates fuel cell technology into motive, continuous and backup power products.
The state money will help Plug Power engineer a “peak burner” unit called the micro-CHP fuel cell into the GenSys system, enabling a “rapid start-up time,” according to Plug Power officials. for more on Plug Power, go to http://www.plugpower.com/news/press.cfm
