Waterford Festival Celebrates Tugboats

Ahoy! The maritime heritage of the state’s canal system is celebrated every September at the Waterford Tugboat Roundup.

The history of the tugboat includes lining the shores of Waterford for much of the 1900s, ready to pull barges out to major waterways that included the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, the roundup features new and old tugboats on display to remind people of days gone by.

About 25,000 people travel to the canal town of Waterford for the annual celebration, with the 2008 event tentatively scheduled for Sept. 5-7. Attractions include boat rides, live music, food booths, children’s activities and a fireworks display.
