Remington Founded in Ilion

Remington Arms – a major manufacturer of rifles, shotguns and ammunition – was founded in 1816 in Ilion by Eliphalet Remington. Legend has it that Eliphalet believed he could build a better gun than he could buy, so he set out to craft such a gun in 1816 on his father’s forge. He came in second place in a shooting contest, and the company was born.

These days, the Remington focuses on shotguns and rifles, which are distributed to more than 60 countries. It has also developed more ammunition cartridges than any other gun maker or ammunition manufacturer in the world.
