Baby Food Maker Goes Ga Ga Over Upstate Site
Published Apr 15, 2008

We kid you not – Beech-Nut is coming home to Montgomery County.

The second-largest baby food producer in the United States will relocate its corporate headquarters from St. Louis to a $124 million plant in the town of Florida in Montgomery County. Construction began in late 2007, with completion scheduled in October 2009.

Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. currently has a production facility 22 miles away in Canajoharie, as well as a smaller facility in Fort Plain. Both sites will remain in operation, possibly as a future fruit and vegetables processing plant and a distribution center.

“Meanwhile, the new Montgomery County plant will ultimately create another 135 jobs for Beech-Nut,” says Christoph Rudolf, president/CEO of Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp.

Rudolf says it was important to establish a modern new plant in upstate New York.

“Since the company began its baby food operation in 1931, Beech-Nut has operated a production facility in Canajoharie,” he says.

“But on June 28, 2006, the current facilities in Canajoharie and Fort Plain were flooded, and the damage put part of our operations out of service for several months.”

Rudolf says Beech-Nut has always appreciated the services of its employees at both locations. “Our employees are one of the many reasons why we are proud to call upstate New York our home,” he says.
